'Peace and quiet' are the words that most people would use to describe country living in Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire.

Have you ever heard owls shrieking, badgers snuffling, foxes or even seen rats going through your bins or even hedgehogs mating on the lawn? You will also find cows and sheep grazing in the peaceful surroundings of the Nene Area.

The dawn chorus starts a new day with the chirrups, tweets, twitters and cooing from trees and rooftops, then the sun rises over Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire. This should awake you with the desire to make the most of your day in the beautiful surroundings of country living.

On winter or wet days on the other hand can be a nightmare, with the snow blocking the drive or swollen rivers and mud everywhere. Living in a very rural location usually means there are few buses and the only other form of transport to get round the countryside is by car which is a necessity. We have a good railway system with train stations such as Stamford, Peterborough, Huntingdon, Kettering and Corby.

Country living means bulk buying so make sure you write a shopping list before you drive miles to the supermarket as most of the little villages are now sadly without a shop or Post Office.  Some people might think that villages are losing the community spirit as a result but not with traditions such as annual events and festivals where you can still keep in touch with your neighbours and friends and join in village activities such as fetes, carnivals and processions. There are also car boot sales, charity stalls with volunteers selling tea and home-made cakes.

Country Living in Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire provides lots of outdoor pursuits such as walking, cycling, fishing and riding and, of course, the lovely pubs which are dotted around the countryside. The nearest town might have a library or even a small cinema. We also do have some theatre and amateur dramatics groups as well as talented musicians who quite often play at local independent schools.

Country Living can make you feel safe and secure by being surrounded by undulating hills, fields and farmland. Why not go riding or walking along the paths and tracks and admire the fantastic scenery? We are spoilt for choice with so many places to go to.

Country Living also means fresh air, home-grown vegetables and farmers markers with local enterprises offering quality produce and crafts. Also having the freedom to roam in such a vast space!
