A Guide to Camping in Northamptonshire, Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire

Camping and caravanning in the UK is family fun at its very best. Furthermore, it can be done on a budget - what better way to see Britain and its countryside in these days of economic disaster?

There is an excellent range of campsites in Northamptonshire, although some deserve special attention. Despite losing the British Formula One grand prix to Donington Park from 2010 onwards, Silverstone racing circuit is a historic venue and fantastic local attraction that has recently secured a five year contract to host the MotoGP event.  Whittlebury Park is the closest campsite to the Silverstone racing circuit and offers superb facilities including electric hook-ups, showers, golf courses, a paddock bar, shop, café and a pavilion providing daily snacks and meals. Private paths lead to Silverstone and the entire park is set in over 600 acres of outstanding natural beauty. Plots are available for tents, caravans and motorhomes.

Another ideal camping location in Northamptonshire is Wicksteed Park, which comprises 147 acres of parkland and lakes, 35 rides and attractions, nature trails and orienteering, a model boating lake, free playground and Pike fishing. Facilities are of an excellent standard and the park attracks over 1 million visitors each year. Wicksteed Park is very much a family ven
ue.

Lincolnshire also offers a selection of superb campsites, most of which attract visitors from far afield in search of a quiet rural getaway. Mere Oaks CL is set on a one acre level, lawned site that is open all year but does require membership in advance. Nevertheless, the site is within reach of Lincoln city for those wishing to savour its historic cathedral, castle, marina and Roman architecture. Nearby woodlands and golf courses are sure to attract further interest and campers will be happy to know that a local pub is never far away!

Brookside caravan and camping park is another excellent Lincolnshire camping location that is just minutes away from the river Trent, deer park and turf maze. Facilities include hot showers and laundrette services.

Camping in Cambridgeshire can also involve a great deal of the outdoor life, however special attention should be paid to the great city of Cambridge itself. Indeed, there are plenty of attractions for campers here in the shape of King`s College Chapel, Corpus Christi, Magdelene, etc., and Duxford Imperial War Museum, Anglesey Abbey and Audley Gardens. There are also vineyard tours at Chilford Hall!

Before embarking on a camping adventure, always ensure that appropriate equipment and supplies are brought along - even if your location is not in a remote area. These include tents, sleeping bags, lighting, food, water, hiking boots and waterproof clothing

Furthermore, you must decide carefully what backpacks you will take camping. A small capacity pack ought to be lightweight, which is useful for punishing hikes, whilst high capacity packs offer more room for equipment at the expense of added weight. Finally, make sure that your holiday is filled with safe fun and enjoyment.
